Part-time Islander, Wendy Gray Hein recently hosted the “Bookies” at her Avalon home on Clarissa to discuss Michael Connelly’s new book, “Nightshade,” which is set in Avalon. Book Club members utilized the Nightshade locations map from Steamer Trunk to tour all of the local places mentioned in Connelly’s book, including the sheriffs “sub” station.

They even interviewed a couple of officers they met on Middle Beach who were standing by their Avalon Police Segways (no John Deere Gator in sight). The other Bookies included Pat Hall, Ronnie Clarke, Rory Marner and Betsy Lamb. They are looking forward to a Catalina sequel from Mr. Connelly and hope to read another mystery with Detective Stilwell. Many thanks to Sand Trap, Zane Grey and Buffalo Nickel for support.
